Just because you’re not in college anymore, doesn’t mean you can’t throw a theme party! Shake up your next dinner party by deciding on a theme and announcing it to your guests. Ensure it’s a crowd that you think will be up for getting into it and showing up in costume! Take a look through our list to get some ideas for your next theme party:
1960s. Recreate a scene from MadMen by asking your friends to don 1960s garb. Leave it open for interpretation – you’ll have everything from psychedelic hippies to Don Draper-wannabes. Go for a cocktail-style party, serving martinis, champagne, devilled eggs and shrimp cocktail.
Casino. Who doesn’t like a little gambling? Create a casino in your own home by setting up a couple of playing areas complete with chips and decks of cards. Make as if it’s Las Vegas in the 20s, with the men in suits and fedoras and the women in flapper dresses. A do-it-yourself bar, where guests can top up their cocktails, would be a fun touch. Serve finger foods with plenty of napkins so the gambling can go on!
Hawaiian Luau. An easy theme to execute, your guests will love dressing in colourful sarongs and Hawaiian shirts. Greet each guest with a flower lei and a tropical cocktail, like a Mai Tai. If the weather’s warm, host the party in your backyard, complete with tiki torches and ukulele music. Serve a tropical meal with entrees such as pineapple chicken, coconut rice and mango salad.
