It’s that time of year again. Pumpkin patches are being raided in search of the biggest and best, candy stores are being looted as people stock up and in houses everywhere, costumes are being brainstormed and fashioned. Whether you plan on having a spooky soiree or you simply want to get a bit festive for the visiting trick-or-treaters, here are some tips to get you into the spirit:
Decide on a decoration theme. Are you going for creepy or cute? Decide whether you want to deck the house in cobwebs and spiders and the front lawn with tombstones, or if a friendly orange and black theme with smiling jack-o-lanterns is more your style.
Do-it-yourself. From homemade candy-apples to DIY masks, try to stick to handcrafted items rather than packaged food and store bought costumes – you’ll save money while being more authentic.
Get creative in the kitchen. It’s not hard to put a Halloween twist on party food and kids’ favourites. Think pizza fingers with blood dip (pizza sticks with tomato dipping sauce) or worms and dirt (chocolate pudding with cookie crumbs and gummy worms).
Plan ahead. There’s nothing worse than rushing around at the last minute. Do things in advance so you’re not running out the night before when the pumpkins and candy will be picked over. You want to be able to relax and enjoy seeing your little ones get ready, the trick-or-treaters at the door or if you’re entertaining, the party.
